  1.         What is Drag And View Gold?
  2.  
  3. Drag And View Gold is a program that lets you view the contents 
  4. of a file or files without having to run the program that 
  5. created them.  Drag And View Gold can view the files created by 
  6. popular word processors, databases, spreadsheets and bitmapped 
  7. or vector graphic programs in their native format.  You can 
  8. also view any file in plain ASCII or hexadecimal format. Drag 
  9. And View Gold allows you to open multiple windows so you can 
  10. easily compare files.  You can search for text in any file or a 
  11. hexadecimal string in the Hex viewer.  You can also go to any 
  12. cell in a spreadsheet, any record in a database and any address 
  13. in the hexadecimal view of a file.  Drag And View Gold allows 
  14. you to select all or any part of a viewed file and copy it to 
  15. the Windows clipboard or print it.  Printing of text files will 
  16. be done in the default font of the printer and will not 
  17. necessarily be formatted the same way as the file when 
  18. displayed by its parent program.  You can also Zoom in your 
  19. view of a file up to 5 times the original file size.

  21. You can view files with Drag And View Gold in two different 
  22. ways.  You can drag the selected files from any file manager 
  23. that supports drag and drop to the Drag And View Gold icon or 
  24. to any open Drag And View Gold window.  Or, you can click on 
  25. the "Fmlaunch" menu item that is added to Windows File 
  26. Manager's menu bar and choose "View files".

  28. Using the view files option will not open a new window if a 
  29. window is already open.  The same is true if you drag files to 
  30. an open Drag And View Gold window.  However, dragging files to 
  31. the Drag And View Gold icon will always open a new window with 
  32. the files displayed.

  34. Every Drag And View Gold window maintains a listing of the 
  35. files that you dragged to it in its "Filelist" menu.  You can 
  36. use the "Filelist" menu to choose a particular file in the list 
  37. to view or you can use the "Last" and "Next" buttons to scroll 
  38. through the list of files.

  40. Also, part of the Drag And View Gold utilities is Fileman 
  41. Launcher.  Fileman Launcher installs itself as a file manager 
  42. accessory.  Fileman Launcher will run Drag And View Gold 
  43. automatically everytime you run Windows File Manager and it 
  44. will exit Drag And View Gold everytime that you exit File 
  45. Manager.  Fileman Launcher will prevend the Drag And View Gold 
  46. icon from being covered when you are working in File Manager.  
  47. And, Fileman Launcher will remember the place where you last 
  48. left the DV icon and will place it there the next time you run 
  49. File Manager.  You can add up to 9 other programs to Fileman 
  50. Launcher and have it manage them the same way as it manages 
  51. Drag And View Gold.  You can access Fileman Laucher from the 
  52. "Fmlaunch" menu item that it adds to Windows File Manager.  To 
  53. add or remove programs or change the way Fileman Launcher runs 
  54. programs, select "Modify program list" from the ôFmlaunchö menu.

  56. Drag And View Gold supports multiple page DCX\DCF and 
  57. spreadsheet files.  If a file has more than one page, there 
  58. will be an active ôPageö menu where you can choose which page 
  59. to view.

  113. Installing Drag And View Gold
  114.  
  115. Installation of Drag And View Gold is very easy with the setup 
  116. program provided.  From Program Manager, choose "File" from the 
  117. menu bar and then choose "Run" from the pull down menu.  In the 
  118. dialog box type the full path where the files are, and the 
  119. program name DVSETUP.EXE.  For example, if you were installing 
  120. from drive A:, you would enter "A:\DVSETUP.EXE".  If you were 
  121. installing from the "DV" directory of drive C:, you would enter 
  122. "C:\DV\DVSETUP.EXE".
  123.  
  124. The DVSetup Program gives you two install and two uninstall 
  125. options.
  126.  
  127. Install options 
  128. 1. You can install Drag And View Gold with 
  129. Fileman Launcher.  Fileman Launcher installs itself as a file 
  130. manager extension and runs Drag And View Gold every time you 
  131. run File Manager.  Fileman Launcher will also keep Drag And 
  132. View Gold's icon uncovered when you are working in File Manager.

  134. 2. You can install Drag And View Gold without Fileman 
  135. Launcher.  Without Fileman Launcher, you will have to run Drag 
  136. And View Gold manually when you want to use it.
  137.  
  138. Uninstall options 1. You can remove Fileman Launcher.  This 
  139. option will remove the line from your WINFILE.INI that runs 
  140. Fileman Launcher whenever you run File Manager.
  141.  
  142. 2. You can completely remove the Drag And View Gold 
  143. installation from your computer.  Do not use this option to 
  144. remove a previous installation of Drag And View Gold.  It can 
  145. only be used to remove a copy of Drag And View Gold that was 
  146. installed with this installation program.  Windows will not let 
  147. you delete a program while it is running.  Therefore the 
  148. DVSetup program will not be deleted during uninstallaion.  You 
  149. will have to delete DVSETUP.EXE and the Drag And View Gold 
  150. directory manually.

  152. Installing The DVSetup program will ask you which drive and 
  153. directory you would like to install Drag And View Gold to.  If 
  154. the destination is different from where you are installing 
  155. from, all files will be copied over to the new path.  If the 
  156. files on the installation diskette are compressed, the DVSetup 
  157. program will decompress them while copying them.  The DVSetup 
  158. program will then create a program group called Drag And View 
  159. Gold and put the Drag And View Gold and Drag And View Gold 
  160. Setup icons in it.  DVSetup will  also install Fileman 
  161. Launcher.  Fileman Launcher is a File Manager accessory that 
  162. will run Drag And View Gold everytime that you run File Manager 
  163. and exit Drag And View Gold everytime that you exit File 
  164. Manager.   Using Drag And View Gold
  165.  
  166. You can use Drag And View Gold two different ways.  You can 
  167. drag files from the file manager to its icon or, if you're 
  168. running Windows 3.1 File Manager, you can use the ôFmlaunchö 
  169. menu that Fileman Launcher adds to File Manager's menu bar.
  170.  
  171. When you run Drag And View Gold it will load and show its icon 
  172. at the bottom left of your screen. If you want to drag files to 
  173. Drag And View Gold's icon, Drag And View Gold must be running.  
  174. It will not work if you try to drag files to its icon in 
  175. Program Manager.  If you run Drag And View Gold from Fileman 
  176. Launcher, Fileman Launcher will keep the Drag And View Gold 
  177. icon from being covered when File Manager is the active 
  178. program.  If you are not running Drag And View Gold from 
  179. Fileman Launcher and you want to keep its icon from being 
  180. covered, you can do so by choosing "Icon always visible" from 
  181. the Drag And View Gold settings dialog.  First click on the 
  182. Drag And View Gold icon and bring up the System menu.  Click on 
  183. the menu selection that says "Settings".  In the resulting 
  184. dialog box, see that ôIcon always visibleö is checked.  That 
  185. will cause the Drag And View Gold icon to show through anything 
  186. that is trying to cover it.  The state of the Always Visible 
  187. option will be saved when you exit Drag And View Gold and will 
  188. become active the next time you run it.
  189.  
  190. Fileman Launcher will remember the last position of the Drag 
  191. And View Gold icon and put it there the next time you run File 
  192. Manager.  If you choose not to run Drag And View Gold from 
  193. Fileman Launcher, you can also have Drag And View Gold save its 
  194. icon position from the settings dialog.

  196. To view files with Drag And View Gold, you drag files from any 
  197. file manager that supports drag and drop to the Drag And View 
  198. Gold icon and Drag And View Gold will open a window displaying 
  199. those files.  The first file in the group that you dragged will 
  200. be the one that is displayed.  All the files will be listed in 
  201. the window's "Filelist" menu and you can use that menu to 
  202. display the other files.  Additionally if you're running 
  203. Windows' File Manager or any file manager that supports file 
  204. manager extensions, you can choose ôFmlaunchö from the menu bar 
  205. and then choose "View files" from the pull down menu.

  207. If you want to view two or more files in the file listing 
  208. simultaneously, you can choose the "New" button and Drag And 
  209. View Gold will open up a new window with the same file list.  
  210. You can open up as many windows this way as your computer's 
  211. memory will support.  You can also drag more files to any open 
  212. Drag And View Gold window; they will be added to the "Filelist" 
  213. menu and the first one in the group will be displayed.  The 
  214. "Filelist" menu will hold up to 20 files.  After 20, as you 
  215. drag new files, the older ones will be dropped off the list.

  217. When Drag And View Gold displays a file, it first tries to 
  218. determine if it can display the file in one of its special 
  219. viewers.  If there is no special viewer for the file, it will 
  220. be shown with either the ASCII viewer (if the file is made up 
  221. chiefly of readable characters) or the Hex viewer.
  222.  
  223. The Drag And View Gold icon will still remain at the bottom of 
  224. your screen even after you've dragged files to it and opened up 
  225. a viewing window.  You can continue to drag files to the icon 
  226. and each time that you do, a new window will be opened.
  227.  
  228. Any open Drag And View Gold window can be closed, maximized or 
  229. minimized to an icon.  You can drag files to a minimized Drag 
  230. And View Gold window and it will be restored and display your 
  231. files.

  233. To exit the Drag And View Gold program, you must choose "Close" 
  234. from the system menu of the Drag And View Gold icon.  You 
  235. activate the system menu by clicking your mouse on the icon. 
  236. When Drag And View Gold exits, all the open windows will be 
  237. closed.  You can choose to just close all the open Drag And 
  238. View Gold windows and not exit Drag And View Gold by choosing 
  239. "Close All Windows" from the Drag And View Gold icon system 
  240. menu.

  242. You can also run Drag And View Gold from the File/Run menu of 
  243. any program manager. If you use a file name as a command line 
  244. argument, Drag And View Gold will run and display the file that 
  245. you specified in a window.  You can also install Drag And View 
  246. Gold as the viewer for other programs such as our Zip manager, 
  247. Drag And Zip.

  249. Selecting and Copying to the Clipboard Selecting areas of views 
  250. to copy to the clipboard is very easy with Drag And View Gold.  
  251. Simply place the mouse pointer at the beginning of the area 
  252. that you want to copy.  Then press the left button and drag the 
  253. mouse to the end of the area that you want to copy, still 
  254. holding down the left button until you are finished selecting.  
  255. You can also select the entire file by choosing ôSelect Allö 
  256. from the ôEditö menu.  To copy a selected area to the 
  257. clipboard, click on the copy button or press Ctl+C or Alt+C and 
  258. the selected area will be copied.  Text, spreadsheet or 
  259. database files will be copied as text.  All graphics files will 
  260. be copied as bitmaps.

  262. All viewers allow selecting and copying except the WAV file 
  263. player and the Hex viewer.
